Three time National Champions "Shooting Stars"
(U16Girls). |
ANAHEIM, California --
Five teams from New England
place as medalists at the 20th USFF National
Championship that concluded on Sunday, July 17th.
after four days of intense and exciting competitions.
Two New England teams captured gold medals at the
National Futsal Championships. They include the
Shooting Stars GU16 and the New Bedford Pitbulls GU12.
Three New England teams came away with Bronze medals.
They include the Pride FC BU10, the Black Widows GU16
and the New England Futsal Academy Men.
Topping the excitement was the
final game of tournament play in the men’s division, which was won by ServCorp over World United, a former three-timer winner,
by a score of 4-2. With the growth of Futsal
accelerating so rapidly over the last five years, so has
the competition. ServCorp represents the fifth different
state association to win the National Title in as many
years. At the youth level the U16 Girls “Shooting Stars”
team from Massachusetts, who lost last years
championship game on Penalty Kicks, came back to win
their third National Title in four years with an
impressive 4 – 1 victory.
All the games in every division over the
course of this event were well played and well attended.
It is estimated that this 20th anniversary championship
was attended by a total of over 7,000 participants and
spectators alike. This support was most likely bolstered
by the fact that there was quite a cross-representation
of teams from regions throughout the U.S. Six out of
eight regions were represented in these finals.
Fifty referees, from various locations
across the country, were invited to participate in this
tournament, including two international quest referees
as well as two U.S. FIFA officials. These referees, with
their combined CONCACAF and FIFA World Championship
experience, certainly enhanced the officiating at this
event.
U.S.
Futsal congratulates all the teams that participated
for their hard work dedication and "Fair Play"
throughout the competition.
