SOCCER young gun Brodie Mooy of Ermington will realize a dream next month when he tours Europe with the NSW Institute of Sport team.

The talented 14 year old wide right or striker is gearing up for the trip of a lifetime where he’ll get the chance to play against the Sweden national U/16s and Norway U/16s as well as top Dutch clubs Ajax and Feyenoord, German club Borussia Dortmund and Belgium clubs Anderlecht and Genk.

Brodie is a Gladesville-Hornsby junior product and was spotted by Northern Spirit talent scouts while playing for West Ryde Rovers in the U/10 Grand Final.

He played for the Spirit in the Premier Youth League and also represented NSW at Futsal - helping the Blues defeat the Solomon Islands to win the Australian title.

Back in 2003, Mooy was awarded a soccer scholarship to Westfields Sports High School - the same school that Liverpool Socceroo Harry Kewell attended before finding fame in England.

He was earmarked by NSW soccer as a player to watch and was a member of their Talent Identification program. Last year he starred for the all-conquering NSW U/14s that won the Friendship Games and was chosen to trial for the NSW Institute of Sport for a place in the soccer program.

Mooy was offered a scholarship and has shown plenty of promise under the guidance of head coach Kelly Cross. Although Brodie has a scholarship with NSWIS the European tour is self funded and he is selling raffle tickets at $2 - prizes include TV and DVD package as well as sporting memorabilia - to help pay the cost of the trip. Brodie has over the years been coached and mentored by family friend - former Socceroo Mark Koussas who won the Golden Boot award at the Youth World Cup. Brodie’s aim is to make the Australian Joeys team in 2007.
