demonstration games and mini-clinics hosted by
Bill
Sampaio,
Director of Coaches for the United STates Futsal
Federation and head of New England Futsal. Two
time United States National Champion Girls U16
Shooting Stars will be on hand as will the
United States National Champion Colombia Pride
Mens Team. "Futs-on" Mini-clinics will be
conducted for everyone on hand to participate in
and to take their shot at Futsal! Teams from
the vairous surrounding USFF youth leagues will
be on hand to demonstrate training regiments and
skills development. Included will be the
Catholic Youth Futsal program of Fall River,
Massachusetts, the Fall River Futsal League, the
New England Futsal Academy, and the Norfolk
County Futsal League, all of which are New
England Futsal affiliate leagues and all of
which are United States Futsal Federation
sanctioned programs.
This will be a
fun-filled event and will provide tremendous
exposure to the sport of Futsal here in New
England and we are excited about this
opportunity to showcase the benefits of, and
excitement for, the sport of Futsal. Gillette
Stadium has a seating capacity for some 68,000
people and this type of exposure is just
tremendous for Futsal!
Futsal is the game
of skill, speed and goals that soccer's Ronaldo
credits for Brazil’s victory at the 2002 World
Cup finals.
Futsal is played on
basketball size courts with five players per
side. The futsal ball is also very different -
with a low bounce, it is heavier and smaller
forcing players to use skill to manage it.
The beauty of futsal in New England is its
ability to be played off season on indoor
courts. The unique ball means you play a very
different game as well with more ball control
and quick, short precise passing. A player is
always moving and always involved in the game.
As Coach Bill says to his players, "If you're
not moving, you're not playing!"
We want people to get out there and really enjoy
this great sport. Futsal has a significant role
to play in the development of soccer. Soccer
greats from Pelé to Zico - all credit futsal as
being crucial to their their own skills
development.
With this opportunity to showcase New England
Futsal to tens of thousands of attendees at
Gillette Stadium in Foxboro, Massachusetts we
hope to continue to light the fire and passion
for the game of Futsal here in New England.
