action!!
During this
past July, fourteen Futsal teams from
Massachusetts participated in the 20th Annual
United States Futsal Federation National
Championships held in Anaheim, California.
Five of these teams came away as medalists and
two teams were crowned National Champions. All
of these teams will be on hand to demonstrate
the game of Futsal as part of a "Futs-on"
pre-game & mini-clinic.
United States
Futsal Federation sanctioned leagues in our area
who will be represented at this event include
the
Catholic Youth Futsal program of Fall River,
Massachusetts, the Greater Fall River Futsal
League, the New England Futsal Academy of
Mansfield, MA, the Essex County Futsal League
and the Norfolk County Futsal League.
This will be a
fun-filled event and will provide tremendous
exposure to the sport of Futsal here in
Massachusetts and New
England and we are excited about this
opportunity to showcase the benefits of, and
excitement for, the great sport of Futsal. Gillette
Stadium has a seating capacity for some 68,000
people and this type of exposure is just
tremendous for Futsal!
Futsal is the game
of skill, speed and goals that soccer's Ronaldo
credits for Brazil’s victory at the 2002 World
Cup finals.
Futsal is played on
basketball size courts with five players per
side. The futsal ball is also very different -
with a low bounce, it is heavier and smaller
forcing players to use skill to manage it.
The beauty of futsal in New England is its
ability to be played off season on indoor
courts. The unique ball means you play a very
different game as well with more ball control
and quick, short precise passing. A player is
always moving and always involved in the game.
As Coach Bill says to his players, "If you're
not moving, you're not playing!"
We want people to get out there and really enjoy
this great sport. Futsal has had a significant role
to play in the development of soccer. Soccer
greats from Pelé to Zico - all who credit futsal as
being crucial to their their own skills
development.
With this opportunity to showcase New England
Futsal to tens of thousands of attendees at
Gillette Stadium in Foxboro, Massachusetts we
hope to continue to light the fire and passion
for the game of Futsal here in Massachusetts & New England.
